Typically the ones who are caught are extorted and entrapped by the FBI and fabricated to seem like a villain.  

They will have a paid informant testify.  I know someone who this happened to. 

I saw most of it go down and I’m still in disbelief because the individual would have never willingly participated in their sting and they paid the victim to have an unsecured system. The hacker they caught was disabled can barely use windows or toe his shoes.  The informant did the dirty deed. 

They gave him a trial where the “Motions in Liminè” didn’t allow him to mention any one involved and the corrupt judge and prosecutor dictated how his testimony will go.

This trial went so badly, the victim started defending the defendant.  The prosecutor cried when she got caught lying. 

This is your tax dollars at work.

1.  They usually take the suspects phone number and ask google which accounts they’re associated with.  (Recovery #s). They get all the web history and IP’s associated. 

2. They subpoena the ISP’s associated with each IP.

3. They present this as evidence to a jury that doesn’t understand whats going on.

4. Conviction without definitive evidence.

5. They use the maximum $$$$$ resources available and misappropriate the money for personal use.  (actually came up during court)

If the adversary is operating from a jurisdiction that either can't or won't enforce cyber-crime prosecutions the people operating from that jurisdiction are essentially immune to getting arrested and prosecuted.

However, there is a long history of such locations that change their mind and decide they do want to join the international community or crack down on specific crimes, and they can retroactively prosecute criminals.

It's more complicated than this, but it's what it often boils down to. Even in countries where they claim to enforce certain laws, there are portions of those countries where the local enforcement is bought and paid for by the criminals and they never get prosecuted. It would take a larger effort to go after these people.

This is also why committing cyber-crimes against some large corporations or valuable targets could get you prosecuted even if most crimes of that nature do not. Take the recent news of the criminals pretending to be Brad Pitt and taking millions from vulnerable older women. They are going after the person responsible while ignoring many thousands of other criminals in the same jurisdiction.

I often think that the low level card skimming is akin to pickpocketing. Law enforcement doesn't spend it's resources chasing the low level crooks. Instead they target organised groups (who often may be involved in other crimes). The same goes for data breaches, the highest profile targets are the ransomware gangs who deliberately seek attention as it helps their extortion. So yeah lot of level crime goes without punishment

In general I'm going to say pretty low. Those that are caught are mainly due to bad opsec, bragging to people or where arrested / investigated for another crime which  leads to them being found out.

Another factor is the scale of the internet and trying to get different countries to co-operate / privacy laws etc.

Very very rarely will a goverment agency use an exploit to take over an attackers device (if they can lure target e.g. tor browser exploits) but again legal issues arise with mass infecting/investigating people without cause.

In terms of financial crime its probally a much higher rate considering someone has to move funds around and 1 wrong transcation could lead to discovery e.g.  paying for a hotel with stolen funds.

I mean there’s Famously the case of here in Australia the Guy Being Caught For Domestic violence and whilst they bust him his computer was wide open as an admin on a Dark Web Website and the cop pulled the USB and wiped all the data &amp; they’ve been trying to catch him since, so I’d definitely say 1% or less of people that are actually caught

My ex is being charged for sexual crimes against children and domestic violence. Do you have any advice on how to protect myself from him? He's facing over 15 charges. Any insight on what might end up happening? (Like going to jail, just ending up on the registry, probation? Etc)

I was sexually abused as a child and my abuser ended up going to prison but left after a less than a year, and returned to abusing me. (I was abused ages 8/9-15) 
Do you know why he would be realized so early? Why he would just be allowed to return to the house? Would it be negligence on my county and stars court system or is there a legitimate reason someone would get off so easily?

Adults will meet kids through chat websites, social media (Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), online dating websites, online gaming, etc.  &gt;	What are your top three advice for parents? What are the different ways they do this?  I can never tell people how to parent, as each kid is unique and each parent/child relationship is unique. There is definitely a fine line between making sure your child isn’t getting groomed online and making your kid hate you for being too controlling.  While your kid is young, make sure you monitor their activity. As they get older, yes, you’ll need to give them some freedom, but you’re still their parent and they’re still a kid on the wide-open internet. There’s really no easy answer for this. You’ll just need to use your best judgement and adjust as necessary.  Education also helps. Make sure your kid is comfortable in talking about these issues with you. They need to know they can trust you not to be super pissed if they bring an issue related to sex to you. Make sure your kid knows what is inappropriate and wrong. You as a parent being aware of the dangers of the internet certainly helps, too. Just know what to look out for.  Also, I hate to say it, but some kids get involved with this stuff at a very young age. We’ve seen doctors, nurses, teachers, firefighters, and yes, cops. It’s rare, but we do come across cops every now and then.  Once we learn the target of an investigation is a cop, we’ll prioritize the case due to the target working in a position of trust. We’ll do this with teachers, medical professionals, and others who might have more access to children than the average target.  We may or may not coordinate with IA of the target’s agency ahead of time. It just depends. Usually, we will. How often are teens prosecuted for distributing selfies?|I can’t speak for everywhere, but in my experience, it’s unheard of. If the teen is the victim of an adult who enticed or groomed the teen, then that’s that. The teen is a victim. While they technically committed a crime, no prosecutor I know would ever consider charging the teen. We would be more interested in the adult.  When it’s teen to teen stuff, it’s just not really worth our time unless there’s some aggregating circumstances, and even then, there are often better ways to handle it. That said, there are probably exceptions.  Regardless, sending nudes as a teen is always a bad idea. On May 9, I started using telegram, looking at groups by one of my friends who told me that has anime groups like amino, so, I looked and definitely a great experience 

However, between June 2-12, a ad on my macbook, pop up saying, "Find great anime figures and merchandise for cheap price" when I was playing flash games, so, I clicked the ad bubble, and it shows these groups in the list section, and so, I clicked on a group called "APCL channel", and I even looked in the description of the list bubble ad and said, put "Dirty stuff" in the chat, and so, out of my curiosity on decision, I did it in 7 or 8 chat rooms, and I deleted 5 of them, and then later in about 3 days, I get notifications from telegram that the media was sent, instead of the merchandise search as it promised from the ad, it's something horrible, and it was child pornagraphy, 2 pics in 1 chatroom a video, and another had a video too, I IMMEDIATELY freaked out and crying, and immediately deleted the chats, group, and telegram altogether, and reported to telegram


Im scared now because the police, icac, or even the fbi, might be tracking me now, especially when on google says when viewing media, it's automatically download, but I immediately looked at my gallery, files, Google drive or photos, and NONE of the media is uploaded to my note 9

I acquired several hard drives from someone I'm barely acquainted with and upon opening the drives I discovered all their personal files still present, amongst which was child pornography. I want to turn in the drives particularly because this person has been charged and incarcerated for for sexual assault on a minor in the past and now lives near a school but I also dont want to be inadvertently charged myself for possessing or having any kind of non-existent involvement. So what I'm asking is whether they will be able to identify who's drive it is, or the ip location of where the images were uploaded or some kind of evidence to prove it was his drive and images and ultimately not mine and nothing to do with me? I don't need to know specifics or anything I just want to verify that Im not going to be charged for trying to do the right thing, sorry if that's selfish of me.

Where do you go if you found info on your 16 year old teens phone that suggests he is live-streaming sexually explicit material and is likely being coerced into it? I saw a PayPal account attempt to install software, etc. He is tight lipped and uncooperative w me and furious that I stumbled into this info while updating His phone as a favor for him. He ran from my house and threatened suicide. He spent 12 days in the hospital refusing to talk. He only wants to come to my house for money, access to friends, and his phone. How do these cases happen. When a victim of grooming goes on to groom others do law enforcement only arrest that victim of grooming or do they arrest the original groomer aswell?? 

Doing investigations on this stuff but not found a concrete answer, never seen a case reported and heard from others that they wouldn’t investigate the original groomer due to limited resources.

im doing the familiar finding program through ncmec right now. how long does it usually take to contact a victim to ask them for the photos they need to do the data analysis? they tried saying they could do this for victims yearly to check back in to see if anything has changed but its already been six months. why would they say they could do this yearly for someone if it takes like almost a year to do it the first time?
also, like, i read a case in my state where the prosecutor shows the cp they find on peoples hard drives to the jury. do you know why they allow this?

Honest opinion, say you caught 4 child abusers, I am talking like producers of child abuse who also participated, the rock n roll type guys in this vile industry. Took them to a remote place with a kind of  metal caged floor with partitions so each one could be locked in and separated from each other.

Do you think hypothetically speaking. if you tortured them by pouring gas on them and lighting them up one at a time and then putting them out with a water hydron to ensure they remain alive. Filmed the victim and the reactions of the others watching from other cage partitions, what was in store for them.

Took that video, clearly show who these guys are, use their accounts on the darkweb etc and posted the video to a lot of these places.

Maybe that could deter them? 

I think some guys would quit, seeing some guys who used to post content like you are doing, could make you wake up and realise this is wrong and this is why I am seeing guys burned alive for days on end until finally they give up.

Surely that is worth a shot, if taking over a child abuse website and trading content can be done all in the name of catching some abusers, why not something more drastic?

If the Police can take over the child abuse websites for the greater good, surely other more drastic measures for the greater good can be tried too?

If you know these videos of children are on the internet why cant the United States STOP or put in place something that people cannot freely go into this type of stuff? To me if you want to help the victim , you seem to allow the victim to be victimized over and over but not putting locks and places that people should not go on the dark web. It’s like you bust people but do nothing to stop it , so make it so people can’t access it. they need to do a better job of that than anything else. I work with children who are sex trafficked and to me you can do more but something tells me it’s about money also or this could be handled different. We have a long way to go on this and United States needs to take a bigger stand on stopping the TOR browser that we created and allow open access to. We can do better.

A friend of mine is in need of help.  She lives in Independence, MO and her neighbor across from her is taking pictures of her and her family and is engaged to someone who has been caught with child pornography on their phone twice in the last six months.   The law enforcement just released him to the public last month or so and when she contacted law enforcement about how she feels unsafe.  They basically ignored her pleas.  Saying that they wouldn't have him register as a sex offender or do anything about him until his third strike.  What can be done?

How often is an extradition request sought from international jurisdictions. Hi are you still answering questions on this page because I went through exactly assembly situation of what you are saying with my son we are done with our case now but I believe that we were treated very unfairly it was not fair to my son he lost his faith in the justice system which he wanted to work in he was accused of receiving and distributing certain videos which these videos were the same videos a lot of people were arrested for fortunately he was a minor but it caused him to have to go see a counselor his grade to drop tremendously I cried myself to sleep for 6 months we had to borrow money I'm on disability for a lawyer and the lawyer told us it was really nothing that she could do that he should plead guilty because it wouldn't be good if you got that on his record then later on she told us that they had found animals and the videos but they know he didn't do that part and that they came from Russia through Dropbox now if they know that he didn't do that part they should know that he didn't do the other part then on top of that he had lost the iPhone that iPhone number a year later called my daughter during this time of this investigation and a little girl was on there and some man grabbed it from her and got her off of it then another time a kid called my mother which would be my son's grandmother and told him that they were locked up in Chicago my mom called me franta and said she was getting ready to send somebody some money to get Isaiah excuse me I didn't mean to say his name out of jail but I said Mom Isaiah is in bed asleep take it in mind this is a kid that is a black belt in karate taekwondo he makes great great well he did he is again thank God never been in any trouble whatsoever never drank never smoked pot cigarettes nothing just a great kid I don't know how I got so blessed but I did and the day that he was accused of this crime was June I believe 20 21 and his birthday is on the 19th so we were out and St Louis riding on a ferris wheel swimming in a pool wasn't doing much with the internet at all I know my son did not do this and I'm sure every single mother said this but I know he didn't do it but he wouldn't let me do anything cuz I was ready to blow a gasket I wanted to get a hold of the justice department and tell him off and I wanted them to do better investigation but my son said Mom I just want to get it over with and that's what he did for two years he had to do probation after that he pulled it together he went to band camp to be in marching band which a friend paid for for us and took a year before he went to college now he's off to college but it never will ever bring his faith back to the justice system I just don't understand if they can find out who does this great big cyber crimes and millions of dollars and they can't figure out who hacked a little boy's internet IP address I mean what the heck really oh they lied to us also whenever they took him into question him said that he saw somebody getting a fight he knew that wasn't right because he don't hang around kids that even fight he don't hang around kids like that at all one of his friends was drinking a bunch of energy drinks and he found out he smoked a joint and he dropped him like a hot potato I'm telling you this kid did not do what he was accused of I believe he should get some kind of compensation and what about the little girl on the phone nobody ever checked on her my son is really worried about that he said that poor little girl I said son there's nothing we can do about anything I know I'm really texting a lot of information here but I'm still feeling some kind of weird way about this whole thing and I hope nobody ever had to live through this it is horrible thank you for listening I would like your thoughts on this

There may be a video (or possibly stills from a video) from when I was 13 or 14. I am 54 now. I don't have information about the videographer except for a general location and a rough, generic description of him. I am unsure if anyone has ever seen it/me. If footage does exist out there online, would anyone in authority still be trying to identify me? Would anyone care after this long? On YouTube, there's a community of Gacha Life YouTubers that do Omorashi (That's a sexual fetish for urine) RPs (Roleplays).

Basically, these RPs go like this: 

\- An RP-er creates a video, which sets the stage: The circumstances, the character(s) the video maker will be using, et cetera.

\- Almost always, the RP starts with the video maker's character needing to go to the bathroom, though sometimes the character has already wet themselves. Hell, sometimes, the commenter will be the one that needs to go.

\- Anybody that wants to RP goes to the comments, then starts an RP with the video creator.

Many of the people in this community are allegedly very young minors, according to a former member, though it's impossible to know, since people don't really reveal their ages there. They regularly use non-adult characters as the subjects for these RPs (The commenter babysitting a young child is one fairly common theme).

Now, the RPs themselves are, while sexual, aren't extremely explicit. Other ERPs I have seen online tend to feature explicit sexual acts, sometimes related to a fetish. However, these ones are a lot more like normal RPs, but with people needing to use the bathroom occasionally. Heck, sometimes nobody ever needs to use the bathroom again after the first time. That doesn't mean they aren't sexual, but they're certainly a lot less explicit.

Now, the problem here is that this can not only attract predators, who may see easy pickings from a crowd of young people already exposed to sexual content, or teens too horny for their own good, that may unwittingly cause severe harm to others.
